Looked forward to checking out Hanny's because the menu and service at AZ88 were always great. Was extramey disappointed with the food menu. I think that the decor of the place is amazing. If they took the food, staff, and bar to from AZ88 to Hanny's, I would actually give the place anoher shot. My group of friends is rather large and frequents places of this type. We now settle for SWITCH or FEZ if we are in the downtown area. I also ordered a Moscow Mule at Hanny's and the genius bartender put grapefruit juice in it. It was horrible!! Definite thumbs down to Hanny's until they get their food and bar straightened out. A menu really can make or break a place and I hope they break if they choose not to listen to their customers.

oh people. you obviously where too drunk to remember the crappy service at az88 or bar 89 or elsa's. ive been to all three and belive what the owner it trying to do with the little martinis at hanny's is accomadate the people who are responsible drivers and people who are on a budget. as for the food....i somewhat agree. some things are good some not so good but the place has only been open for 6 months! its not an applebees! they are trying to do something different and im sure trying hard to figure things out. maybe we should all make comments on what we think could improve the menu and stop harping on the drinks. p.s. hanny's, can you please stop burning my pizza and a little less meat. oh and you sometimes overdress my salad.

I live downtown and have been to Hanny's twice which was one time WAY TOO MANY TIMES. The drinks are skimpy, service is not bad - it's horrible, the staff has an attitude that the place is the only venue in the entire state, and the food is only good if you like a RED MEAT ONLY option. We asked for the manager about holding a private party of over 300 people and he said NO we don't do that and walked away. Not only was he rude, but the place is always empty. Pass up Hanny's until they fire the entire staff and management and reformulate.

I haven't been there since shortly after it opened, but I came away with the feeling that so much money and energy had been spent on the space, that little was left for the menu and food. I have been in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years and was very disappointed with the food. I felt that the menu selection was an insult to the space in which it was being served. Obviously the "WOW" factor still ends once you're seated...too bad.

Telling Megan to actually review a place and not just kiss up to them is like arguing on blogs. You may win but in the end you are a looser.

Hanny's is ok. It's just a bar. I don't see what all the fuss is about. I've been there 3 times and the service was always pro. It's not my kind of place as far as the vibe goes but I can see all the douche bags and fake tans from Scottsdale giving it consistent business whereas I'm seeing more and more of their kind downtown. I think it's good that they have a place to go so they stay out of the smaller places with true character. Hanny's serves a purpose so I can't really bag on it. I'm also a firm believer that if the staff at any bar or restaurant are unfriendly to you, it's probably because you're an asshole with limited social awareness.

Just to be clear - Hanny's has not been open for three years. It opened in November. The three-year buzz was how long it took things to come together from the first rumor to opening day.

Ignorance. There is always merit beyond denial. People have no reason to drive from wherever they are at to come downtown except for a game or to go to court. A restaurant with crappy food, long waits, that pretends to be cool...LOL. Will anything ever change down there? You have to live there to experience it and it just wont ever have an appeal except for a certain sector or our population that flocks to that culture and they are ok with it apparently. Possibly a lack of choices drives people to accept it but who cares? Megan your HOT!

In Fabulous Phoenix people suffer heavily from the lack of knowledge of the way things should be. Attacking a passive critic is indicative of how retarded people actually are. People accepting mediocraty is what allows restraunteers to subject us to their marginal foods and service at high costs. Most people think that as long as they are there and others they are watching then they feel cool and no complaints. If your ignorant enough to not care just because you dont have to cook it don't complain. They should struggle to achieve the epitomoy which is a great home-cooked meal of epic proportion, and the best, largest drinks. WHich is what alot of REAL people are doing these days (get invited). Its so sad to see the metro -effect on Phoenix failing so miserably when it used to be such a great fun place-- but we all knew it would never work out as its too difficult to go party there and get home safely or not with a DUI.... Fix that and it'll all change...

Why take a good concept, such as AZ88 and have a restaurant that is exactly opposite downtown. The menu is laugable, the drinks are good but so small...they took everything that made AZ88 successful and decided to remake the wheel..WHY.?

PelagicDude, it's ironic that you actually made my point for me even though you were trying to get back at me. My point was if Megan is going to critique a restaurant, then she should *critique* it. She should say the service sucks, the food is so-so, the drinks are great and whatever else. But she shouldn't kiss up to the restaurant at the same time she's trying to dress it down because she's afraid they won't like her afterwards. The rest of your comment is wholly without merit and warrants no further discussion.

The staff was so unfriendly I only stayed for one drink then took my money down the street for better service.

What shes trying to say is that people are craving for their money's worth of service and a good time. Cracking on her only shows what a typical "Non-Aware" Phoenician is like. Its you people that settle for blandness and shallow people pretending to be full of life that allow restaraunteers to get away with a crummy experience. Lets face it-- most people arent smart enough to know the difference between good food and bad as long as they dont have to cook it, and if if they think people are watchign them they feel cool... because they are there. Its really too bad. Nothin' like a home-cooked meal of epic size and full drinks made the way they are supposed to be... all at 1/10th the cost. Thats where the real freinds are...

Agree that Hanny's disappointing. The menu is much too limited. I can put up with so-so service but the food is the thing.

I totally agree with this article. I wanted to like Hanny's and planned on taking a large group of friends. Service was dismal, and the pizza was like an overcooked cheese crisp. I sent a complaint email to Hanny's on their website, but never got the courtesy of a response. I don't think I'll go back.

So what are you trying to say here, Megan? Have you avoided being a responsible critic of this place for three years hoping that your fluff piece today will finally get them to change their ways? Why should Hanny's do anything different? You've already admitted you're going back sooner rather than later, it their shortcomings must not be all that bad. Apparently, no one is complaining, and as far as I can tell, you're only complaining that you had to get around to doing your job. Why did you even write this?
