Pussycat Lounge, the Old Town Scottsdale club best known for its sex-swing decoration and block-wrapping lines, closed Sunday, July 19.

It will reopen with a refreshed look in late August. American Junkie and Dirty Pretty, the other clubs run in Scottsdale by the people behind Pussycat Lounge, remain open.

The owners are working with Scottsdale interior designer Jeff Low, who designed the club's original open, spacious look, to revamp the room. Club promoter Chad Landau, speaking on behalf of the bar, would not speculate on the new look.

The club will not have a new name, new image or new target audience, he said.

"Pussycat is Pussycat, and it's been working really well for us," Landau said. "We love the way that Pussycat is, and there's no reason to fix what isn't broken."

He said the bar will continue to cater to the Arizona State University crowd on Thursdays and to an industry crowd on Sundays, filling Fridays and Saturdays with DJ-centric dance party promotions.

Word spread about the closing when Landau posted pictures of the torn-up bar on his Facebook page, where he has been doing much of the club promotion in the last year.

"We are completely gutting the place," he said. "We're working day and night. We want to get open, obviously, for school, so the best time to do it is in July. We're confident that Pussycat will be back just as strong as it has been for the last five years."
