With zillions of rums, bamboo décor and cocktails garnished with pineapples, oranges, colorful wooden parrots and little plastic islanders, Trader Vic's has been an upscale island destination for generations. The menu is elegant, sweeping from Asian to island with '50s-era touches, but the cocktails are really what make the place. This is where the Mai Tai was born, after all. While you're musing on whether the tropical-print shirts work for the waiters or not, indulge in the night's vacation-vibe by skipping the usual Cosmo and ordering a Mojito, a Mai Tai or, if you're with a group, the Tiki Bowl, a two-person cocktail made with light and dark rums, brandy and almond flavors and orange juice. Little Tikis hold up the bowl. And there's a flower floating in it. It's insane.
