Cream Stereo Lounge debuts new night
With the launch of Giant Wednesdays at Cream Stereo Lounge tonight, house heads have another reason to delay that move to San Francisco.
DJ Dave Dresden of Gabriel and Dresden will perform at the intimate new nightclub in Old Town Scottsdale.
Now the lovers of electronic dance, heavy bass and the kind of music that makes your chest vibrate can celebrate the city's second night exclusively dedicated to big-name, international dance DJs.
Cream Stereo Lounge opened on New Year's Eve as a smaller, more upscale place for the cool kids to dance as opposed to Scottsdale's massive discotheques Myst and Axis/Radius. But now Cream is going after Myst's crowds even more aggressively, hoping to lure on Wednesdays the dance junkies who normally would save their best moves for Myst's House 7340 night on Fridays.
To do this, the new club has partnered with the DJ-centric Peoria-based promoters Relentless Beats, a company that typically brings in the big names that play Myst. And they've brought in Giant, a dance-night production company that runs weekly events in Hollywood, Las Vegas and San Diego.
The night comes at a shaky moment for Scottsdale nightclubs, as the tough economic times cut into young people's disposable income and most clubs aren't seeing big crowds until 11:30 p.m. or later. With dance floors not reaching critical mass until 1 a.m., that leaves precious little time for owners to make money off drink sales. And the number of clubs charging cover has dropped in recent weeks as people have started balking at even $5.
But, as this new Wednesday night proves, the beat does, indeed, go on.
