Lon's at the Hermosa is a fancy, dress-up-date kind of place. The food is as tasty as the surroundings are gorgeous, and you pay for both with the price of your dinner and drinks.

This explains why I've been there so few times even though I love it for its classic, old-school Arizona feel and its glorious views of Camelback Mountain.

But now I can afford to take myself to Lon's because the venerable, AAA Four Diamond-rated restaurant and bar has just announced a new daily happy hour.

From 5 to 7 p.m., guests can order four different beers for $4, five cocktails for $5, including the Megaree Mojito, or six wines for $6. Executive Chef Michael Rusconi has also developed a handful of savory lounge menu items to accompany these new summer deals, including his signature Cedar River short rib sliders, served with horseradish cream on jalapeño cheddar buns, $7.

Lon's is actually the former home and studio of lauded cowboy artist Lon Megargee. It's decorated with the painter's colorful work as well as vintage Western artifacts and ranching paraphernalia and has an intimate, rustic vibe that's made elegant by the sophistication of the food and drink as well as by low lighting and a copious number of candles.

This has long been the kind of place you take friends from out of town to show them historic, authentic Arizona, or where you take that date you really want to wow. But now, with this new happy hour, it's also where you just take yourself when you're in the mood to celebrate how fortunate your you are to live in such a beautiful place at such an affordable time.
