Silver Medallion shines

As a die-hard music fan, I'm a sucker for a great hook.

As a fashion junkie, I'm a sucker for a great look.

And as a nightlife writer, I'm obsessed with trying to find a great party.

So it's with glee that I share with you my plans for Friday.

The Scottsdale-based electronic hip-hop duo Silver Medallion is teaming up with G-Unit's Young Hot Rod to launch a new night at Sugar Daddy's.

I know what you're thinking. Why electronic hip-hop? What is a G-Unit? Who goes to Sugar Daddy's anymore?

As Silver Medallion, the long-locked Oren J and the faux-hawked Carnegie have been generating buzz for more than a year now with flashy performances of their snarky, tongue-in-cheek, raunchy blend of dance and hip-hop.

The duo is putting out their debut album in the coming months and is on the cover of February's XPOZ, which is helping throw the party.

“They want our stamp on the night,” Oren J said. “We'll be on the mic, welcoming people to the place.

“We bring in a younger, more Scottsdale crowd, and a little bit of a hipster, college crowd. It's a more fashion-oriented scene. “

Silver Medallion is making the rounds in support of their newest track, "Camera," as well as the hook-tastic earlier releases "StopGo" and "Gravity."

Young Hot Rod, a member of 50 Cent's loose entourage who also is signed to the superstar rapper's label, is helping to host. His major-label debut has been delayed several times now, but apparently he's still game to party.

Oren J said he's looking forward to hanging with his guests and hearing new music, including any mashups that don't involve a well-tread rap laid over a Journey track.

“The cheesy ‘80s ballad mixed with a hip-hop song, I'm totally over that,” he said.

The singer also mentioned that he and Carnegie will be rocking some new threads that they picked up while in New York City, meeting with record label-types.

They're going with a new look to match their more polished sound, trading in ironic Ts for sophisticated menswear.

“Carnegie will be sporting a bow-tie for sure,” he said. “We're over the ‘80s party-club look, that's so over. That happened. Now the new style is combining the formal stuff so you look like a man, but you mix that up with some really fresh kicks. …”

Likewise, the promoters ask that you “dress to be fresh,” so this might be a good time to dust your shoulders off.

While you're at the club, you can score $2 premium drinks from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., along with $2 Coronas and $4 shots of Patron all night.
