The premier eatery in the Scottsdale scene, AZ 88 has been garnering a following for over 20 years. So it makes sense that this restaurant, located in the Scottsdale Mall, is the reigning queen of the dining/nightlife scene in Old Town. The young, the beautiful, the tragically hip; whether it’s to eat, drink martinis or people watch, they’ve all been here at least once. The food at AZ 88 is better than I expected. I thought this place was all “scene,” but I was mistaken. The shrimp ceviche is the best I’ve ever had and the burgers are a customer favorite. But the real winner here is the AZ 88 chicken sandwich, which is grilled in Buffalo sauce and topped with sautéed celery and bleu cheese dressing. Be warned, AZ 88 is not a place you to go stuff your face, chill and relax. This ain’t no pub. I don’t think anyone here knows what the word “casual” means. This is a straight-up, hip place to see and be seen.
