Caipirinha
November 10, 2008
The Place: Fogo e Brasa, 4909 E. Chandler Blvd., Phoenix, 480-783-6060, fogoebrasa.com
It should be no surprise the best Caipirinha would be found at the famed Fogo e Brasa, a Brazilian steakhouse tucked away in an Ahwatukee strip mall that's known to drum up thirsty diners with massive skewers of meat. You can wash down your carnivorous meal with national drink of Brazil, made with cachaça (distilled Brazilian sugar rum), lime, water and sugar. Similar to a mojito, the sweet, simple mix uses lime rather than mint for a burst of fragrant, exotic flavors. While you're there, have the wait staff teach you how to pronounce the drink properly (something like kye-pur-reen-yah). It's as fun to say as it is to drink.
The Price: $7
The Magic: Muddled lime is doused with sugar, water and cachaça, shaken, on the rocks.
