Spring break 2009 in Rocky Point, Mexico

As an ASU FEMALE Student and Mexican at that. I am offended by the remarks. NOT! Mexico has been dangerous 4 years. I swear Nuevo Laredo has been at war with police and drug cartel 4 several years. I went there on several business trips & seen it first hand. This was over 3 years ago. I think the articles now & the emails from asu are bogus. I mean even if there is violance going on in these towns mainly Texas, New Mexico and Cali borders its between drug cartel and police that try to take control. Makes me wonder if they are just wanting they students to stay in the US to spend their money because the economy has gone to sh**. Kinda like the saying "if you build it they will come" in this case its more like if you scare them they will stay. But hey if your paranoid about it stay in the US. But trust me this has been a problem for years in these border towns just now are they making a big deal.

Varriobakers, you ovbiously haven't been READING the articles and various statements released... ALL THE VIOLENCE IS NOT IN THE RESORT TOWNS! Rocky Point is just as safe, IF NOT SAFER, then Vegas. According to Neighborhoodscout.com you have a 1 in 49 chance of being a victim of a violent crime (murder, assault), a 1 in 8 chance of being a victim of a property crime (car theft, robbery) all in what city? LAS VEGAS. Go review your facts and stop giving AZCentral heat for posting this story.

The only things I don't like about Puerto Peñasco is that ASU students use the place as a toilet and tampon every Spring Break. If any of them get hurt or killed, you can say with 100% certainty it's the ASU students' fault. What I don't like about ASU students visiting Puerto Peñasco is that once they're there, they take over and act like they own the place. Consequently, a lot of them get in trouble and end up spending time in jails that makes Sheriff Joke's Tent City look like the Ritz-Carlton. As for me, I've been there many times and I never do anything stupid or anything that attracts unwanted attention. I always have a good time and always come back in one piece. The only complaint I have is with the U.S. Border agents who confiscated the turkey bacon that I bought at Safeway in Phoenix when I returned home. And to all you people who have a problem with my post, I don't have any Hispanic blood, so don't go spewing racist remarks assuming I'm Mexican.

We enjoy going to Plaza de Orro every year...really starting to wonder if it is safe. Most of the violence seems to be centered along the Texas border but it is only a matter of time before it spreads. There seems to be a growing resentment towards Americans as the Mexicans feel we are largely responsible for the amount of firearms in their country. It's just a matter of time before someone decides to make an example out of a group of americans. Funny how the law of supply and demand works....Guns in their country....Drugs in ours. Bet ya Sherriff Joe could solve this one easy!

Maybe I'm just too old, but does anyone else think the guys behind these girls look like perv's? I know this is counter-intuitive for most college age girls, but please think before you drink (around strange guys). Looks like a really bad decision waiting to happen. That's one where you wake up wondering what happened and why your panties are missing. AZ Central should stop trying to appeal to this type of behavior.

I notice there is not tips on how to survive a beheading or how to avoid a cartel shoot out.

How can you feel good about promoting Mexico clubs / spring breaks when AZCentral.com home page has an article on the front page saying how AZ colleges are "Warning against Mexico Spring Breaks" Seems extremely irresponsible of AZCentral & Metromix to be pumping this up...as a 24 year old who travels to Mexico a lot for work, I know first hand how dangerous it is getting...worse than ever especially for Americans. I love AZCentral.com, but would seriously reconsider posting these articles
