The Civic Space Park is is bordered by Taylor Street, Polk Street, First Avenue and Central Avenue.
Phoenix leaders want the 2.77-acre park to play many roles in downtown life. It's supposed to be a hangout for students at Arizona State University's nearby campus, a place for tourists and a spot where office workers and residents can unwind.
Janet Echelman's $2.4 million suspended art piece, "Her Secret is Patience" isn't the only thing worth seeing, parks officials say.
There's a water wall, tables for checkers and chess and huge light sticks. There are green touches, too: The city added solar panels, porous concrete and a system to capture rainwater, officials said.
