“It was kind of question mark for me. It’s the first time she’s ever done a film but she’s been performing all her life. She’s got this colossal presence and I thought that would translate nicely to the film. It’s the technical stuff—the pitfalls lie within the camera frame. Going from being this big, grandiose performer to working within the confines of the camera.
“She has very good instincts, she was very natural. She didn’t force any of her performance and usually that’s characteristic of someone doing it for the first time, it comes off forced.”
