As the presidential candidates debate their plans for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Kid Rock has written and recorded a song called Warrior for the National Guard.

The rocking tune and accompanying video, which can be viewed at nationalguardwarrior.com, paints a heroic picture of Guard members. It is being used as a recruiting tool.

The video shows members of the military in action overseas and in America, and features shots of NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr. screaming around a racetrack in his Guard-sponsored car.

"So don't tell me who's wrong and right . . . If you ain't gonna fight, get out of the way," Rock sings in the song, which can be downloaded for free at the Web site.

Here are other patriotic rock and country songs:

Let's Roll, Neil Young - The veteran rocker's tribute to the passengers on ill-fated United Flight 93, who on Sept. 11, 2001, fought with terrorists bent on flying the jetliner into the U.S. Capitol. One passenger was heard via cellphone saying, "Let's roll." Young sings, "Let's roll for freedom. let's roll for love, we're going after Satan, on the wings of a dove."

Only In America, Brooks & Dunn - Presidential candidate Barack Obama played this country-rock tune after his acceptance speech in a Denver football stadium. "Only in America, dreaming in red, white and blue . . . Where we dream as big as we want to," Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn sing.

Don't Tread on Me, Metallica - The title of this 1991 song references the Revolutionary War and the Gadsden flag, which used that phrase as a motto. "Don't tread on me . . . threaten no more / To secure peace is to prepare for war," James Hetfield sings.

All Gave Some, Billy Ray Cyrus - Miley Cyrus' dad used this as the title track for his 1992 debut album. The ballad's chorus salutes wounded and fallen soldiers: "All gave some and some gave all /And some stood through for the red, white and blue / And some had to fall."

VOA, Sammy Hagar - Before he joined Van Halen in 1985, Hagar released a solo album by this name. The title track puts the world on notice that America won't take any grief: "You in the Middle East, you be on your toes / We're bound to strike, everybody knows / Just tell your friends, the U.S.S.R. / We're gonna crash that party, 'cause they've gone too far."

Ragged Old Flag, Johnny Cash - This spoken-word tribute to Old Glory was the title track of a 1974 album released as the Watergate political scandal wound down. It tells of a visitor stopping into the town square of a small community and noting that the flagpole and flag were a little run down. An old man then explains everything the flag has been through.

When I'm Gone, 3 Doors Down - The group filmed the video of this power ballad during a performance on the U.S.S. George Washington aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean in 2002. The band shots are interspersed with scenes of sailors saying goodbye to their loved ones and images of American military might.

Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue (The Angry American), Toby Keith - The highest-profile and most controversial flag-waving tune of recent years. It was written by Keith after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and after the death of his father, a veteran. Such lines as "The Statute of Liberty started shaking her fist" and "We'll put a boot up your (expletive), it's the American way" drew strong reactions on all parts of the political spectrum.
