Karen Elson helps kick off Bonnaroo 2011
The 10th annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival got off to a sweaty start on Thursday, June 9, with temperatures inching towards triple digits and fans guzzling water and hovering under the festival's mushroom-shaped center fountain in an effort to stay cool. Despite the heat, an eclectic lineup of artists still delivered electrifying performances. Thursday's highlights included indie favorites like Deerhunter and Best Coast, plus singer-songwriter Karen Elson—whose husband, Jack White, happily watched her performance just one day before announcing he and Elson are getting divorced.
