Snow Patrol, ‘Fallen Empires’
Due out: Jan. 10
The sixth Snow Patrol album has been out in the U.K. since November, and finds the Irish alt-rockers mining sounds influenced by U2’s “Achtung Baby” album—which is understandable. After all, Snow Patrol spent time on the road as the opening act for Bono and company. To make “Fallen Empires,” the quintet moved into a Malibu, Calif., home, writing songs with names such as “This Isn’t Everything You Are,” “Called Out in the Dark” and “Those Distant Bells.” The disc contains everything from a choir to dance-floor beats to Goth-y overtones, so no wonder singer Gary Lightbody has been quoted as saying “Fallen Empires” is his band’s “most ambitious album.”
