Krispy Kreme has been around since the 1930s, but many people had never heard of it until about 15 years ago, when it expanded and changed the lives of doughnut fans across the nation. The shop with the green-tile roof and the kitschy retro-style signage serves a variety of doughnuts and gourmet coffees, but keep an eye out for the neon “Hot Light.” When it’s lit, it means the store is in the middle of baking up fresh batches of their sweet treats, and customers can purchase donuts straight from the oven. If there’s anything closer to nirvana on this Earth than an Original Glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut served piping hot off the line, we don’t know what it is.
