Lenny Rosenberg is turning the northwest corner of 32nd Street and Camelback Road into his personal restaurant complex. First, there was Zen 32. Then, there was Delux.
Now, there's Revo Burrito.
It's pronounced REE-voh , and the name is supposed to suggest what Rosenberg calls "revolutionary Mexican" fare.
The restaurant has been tuning up for several weeks, but Monday, Oct. 26 marks the day it began operating at full throttle.
Despite the name, the menu will only seem revolutionary if you've just moved here from an ice cave in Greenland. We're talking burritos, tacos and burrito or taco combination plates with rice and beans. You order at the counter; find a seat, and wait for a server to bring your food out.
Rosenberg expects the signature dish to be the carne asada burrito ($6.95). Other burritos include chicken fajita ($6.50), green chile ($6.75) and shredded beef ($6.75).
Tacos range through carne asada ($6.75), mahi mahi ($7.95), shredded beef ($6.75) and chicken machaca ($6.50).
What makes Revo revolutionary, Rosenberg says, are the higher-quality, good-for-you ingredients. That means Angus beef, natural chicken, fresh guacamole, housemade salsas and organic black beans.
To Valley old timers, Revo may summon up memories of Blue Burrito Grille, a healthful Mexican concept that Rosenberg launched in 1992 , in the very same shopping center. (Rosenberg sold the business in 1999.) As I recall, it was the first Valley Mexican restaurant to have the red "Heart Smart" logo next to items that met the group's nutritional guidelines.
Still, Rosenberg insists there's no comparison between the two. Revo's fare, he says, is both spicier and more authentically Mexican.
