The Breakfast Joynt

Breakfast is in the house, and it looks like Daily Dose might have some competition for early risers up north Scottsdale way. The Breakfast Joynt quietly opened just before Thanksgiving next to the Gold's Gym at Northsight Boulevard and Raintree Road, as an independently owned spot specializing in made-from-scratch fare.

This is serious start-your-day stuff, like chocolate-chip crepes, Swedish pancakes with ligonberries, Granny Smith apple-stuffed pancakes with vanilla-bean ice cream, home-style biscuits and gravy with country-fried steak and eggs, or corned-beef hash and eggs.

Sure, owners David Phelps and Becky Mazzocco offer some health-conscious eats like six egg whites (yes, six) and whole-wheat toast, but why bother, when you can get a build your own three-egg omelet laden with ham off the bone and asparagus?

If lunch is more your bag, it's available all day, too, which means from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Look for a fried pork loin sandwich, a burger, a Monte Cristo, or rigatoni tossed with olive oil, garlic and chicken breast. —Carey Sweet, special for Metromix
