Cafe Wasabi
Sushi spot Cafe Wasabi is a Tempe gem because it has a trendy-looking interior without the snobby crowd. Plus, it offers sandwiches — not what you’d expect from a sushi bar. A long silver table in the middle of the room, which is surrounded by other tables and couches, punctuates the blue-and-green interior. Try the tootsie roll ($6), with crab, avocado and cucumber, or the Las Vegas roll ($7), with salmon, crab and cream cheese — and all the sushi is served with fresh ginger. The portobello panini ($7) also is a standout because of the especially meaty serving of mushrooms.A cappuccino mini cake ($4.25) is a tasty dessert.
